PCloginnow, PCregedit, PCcmoscleaner and PCdiskeraser module

#1 Post by Icecube » Sat Apr 25, 2009 3:26 am

There were several request about adding PCloginNow and PCregedit to UBCD, because the original version is bad modified GParted liveCD, which doesn't run on every PC and which does a lot of unnecessary stuff like setting up the network card (which isn't needed for PCloginNow and PCregedit).
viewtopic.php?t=1576

I managed to extract the actual programs out of the iso and I could run them on Ubuntu (so it should work with Parted Magic too). I need to install Windows first in a virtual machine to see that the programs work like they should (I don't have Windows installed and the programs say that they can't find a Windows install).

When they are added as modules to Parted Magic, they probably will add 1MB of extra space to UBCD.

PCloginNow and PCregedit are freeware now, so it should be save to include them:
PC Login Now is released as a freeware now. Everyone can download PC Login Now (Full version) and use it for free.

Do you mind if I add those 2 programs?

Other free utilities of this developer/company:
I didn't test them yet, but they probably use the same mechanism for running those utilities (Gparted liveCD ==> then actual program), so it may be possible that they can be added too.

- You do not have access to change the settings in BIOS?
- Have bought a laptop from the other people or Auction website, but they did not tell you the BIOS password?
At this time, PC CMOS Cleaner will help you to solve them in several clicks.

PC CMOS Cleaner is an easy-to-use tool to recover, delete, decode and display the superior passwords stored in BIOS whatever the brand is. Most types of BIOS are supported. It's an bootable CD that runs on x86 and x86_64 computers. No need to pay expensive fees to experts. It's a useful tool for users to get their lost BIOS password back, or clean passwords from an old computer bought from others.

Do "Delete" or "Format" really delete the data?
The answer is obvious : NO! If so, why there are so many data recovery softwares?
Whether your data is sent to the recycle bin or your entire drive is formatted and repartitioned, the chance of unauthorized discovery is existed. As Windows System does NOT actually delete the file, instead, it marks the file as deleted, which means your private data is still there.

You should consider this problem seriously when you are planning to:
1. Disposal old computers in your company, which might store important business information.
2. Sell your old computer or harddisks(they may store lots of your private data: id card number, passwords, friends' addresses, your health record, private photos ...)
3. Change owner of computer within company.
4. Abandon the old computers in government, hospital, bank which might store lots of public information.
5. Reinstall a new system on a partition where is once to be a concentration camp of virus.
What can PCDiskEraser do for you?

PCDiskEraser enables you to easily, quickly and permanently erase all data that is personal, confidential and critical on your hard drive – and has the capability to erase to both U.S. Department of Defense 5220.22 and German Military Government standards. It permanently deletes the information by actually overwriting all of the data on your hard drive - never to be recovered - so you can feel confident that sensitive information is completely eliminated. It's fast, flexible, easy to use, and best of all, PCDiskEraser helps you maintain control of your confidential information.

PCDiskEraser doesn’t damage harddisks! They are completely re-usable after having been deleted.

In addition, PCDiskEraser have some exclusive features you should not miss:
1. Offline running (no system cache affect) PCDiskEraser does not rely on Windows system, so that it can steer clear of the caching mechanism and erase the data perfectly. No orignal data will be written back.
2. Erasing mode technology(invented by PCDiskTools, Inc) We have developed a new technology which turns the harddisks into special erasing mode. In this mode, the program will erase the data more perfectly. It is safe without any physical damage to the harddisk.

I think that there's something quite nicer than PC Login Now:

of course also freeware:

Konboot

http://www.piotrbania.com/all/kon-boot/

much smaller and supports also Linux systems

I have not tested the other free programs...but I have dled and checked them...and they have the same structure as pclogin now. Would be great to add them all or/and konboot to the cd...I think so many people would get the cd specifically for that reason. Cant wait!! :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

Rotf...If you have seen the bleach series you should see the konboot website...

To Parted Magic (as modules) I assume?

I have no problems with that.

Does that mean V5.0 is going gold????

I have most if not all the Beta / Build versions so it not a big deal but I have friends that have asked when 5.0 final was going to be released.

Download the last test version of Parted Magic:
http://beefdrapes.partedmagic.com

Extract the iso:
Copy the contents of the /pmagic directory of the iso to /pmagic of the extracted UBCD iso.
Copy isolinux.cfg and syslinux.cfg and the whole content of the /boot/syslinux directory of Parted Magic to the /pmagic/boot/syslinux directory of UBCD. Open the files with a text editor:
Do a global replace of /boot/isolinux/ or /boot/syslinux/, with /pmagic/boot/syslinux/.

Download the modules and place them in /pmagic/pmodules:
http://beefdrapes.partedmagic.com/modul ... leaner.txz
http://beefdrapes.partedmagic.com/modul ... eraser.txz
http://beefdrapes.partedmagic.com/modul ... ginnow.txz
http://beefdrapes.partedmagic.com/modul ... egedit.txz

They are pretty small compared with the size of the original pachage (crippled Gparted liveCD). Most of the size is taken up by a bitmap (.bmp) picture (2MB) :? .

For PCloginNow and PCregedit all drives that contain a Windows installation should be unmounted, else the program probably won't work. I hope to find a way to avoid this problem in a next release.

To start the programs, boot into Parted Magic and run them in the terminal or from the "<ALT> + <F2>" program:

Code: Select all

$ pccmoscleaner
$ pcdiskeraser
$ pcloginnow
$ pcregedit
When you exit the programs, it will ask if you want to reboot the PC, choose "yes". It won't reboot the PC (keep in mind that the programs are ripped of a cripple made version of the Gparted LiveCD).

This modules are the first one, that will run in Parted Magic in RAM and in Live mode (Live mode doesn't work with the old antivirus modules for example).

Feedback will be much appreciated, especially for the PCloginnow and PCregedit program (only tested with a virtual machine with an installled Windows XP).

Being new to the forums, and recently returning to UBCD/Desktop Support/Geekiness....

Does your last post mean that I could add the latest release of Parted Magic (4.3), until such time as the final release of UBCD v5 is set? I ask mainly because it now includes CloneZilla, which is a must have for me.

Then again, I'll be trying it in the morning either way, so I may already have an answer before you answer. ;) In which case I'll post my answer to my own question.

I just hurt my brain

P.S. Thanks for the work. Whatever version existed in the 03-05 range was a staple for me then, and I'm grateful that it's still beng developed and improved.

Thanks. I kind of got it to work. I was getting some kind of error referring to "Could not find kernel image: /pmagic/pmagic/boot/syslinux/vesamenu.c32". So I messed with the directory structure and though I got the same or similar message again, it loaded Parted Magic for me (with no additional boot options). Maybe if I can learn some of this better I can figure it out. :)

P.S. I edited the error message to be a bit more accurate, as I am posting this from within the Parted Magic 4.4 boot image, just to prove that it works, though not perfectly. ;)

P.P.S. Oh, and the change I made to get it to boot at all was to move the contents of '/pmagic/pmagic' into '/pmagic', thus removing the "redundant" folder structure. Before doing that, I would get the above error and it wouldn't do anything.

P.P.P.S. Lastly, all 4 modules work too!!! Thanks!

This doesn't work with the newer version's of pmagic. You have to edit syslinux.cfg and isolinux.cfg change the first two letters "UI" to "DEFAULT". After doing that I was able to get Parted Magic to work but still can't get PCloginnow to work even using pmagic v4.3. I just started messing with all this today so I'm not very familar with Parted Magic what is the code to start the programs, ie what do I type before $pcloginnow?
