Which UBCD app to use for drive copy?

#1 Post by muki » Sat Sep 19, 2009 3:33 am

[Long time fan, first time caller here. Forgive me if I put this in the wrong forum.]

I got a wonky Windows XP install ('hal.dll is gone or missing'...stupid hal.dll). I've done all the usual stuff when this happens and I think I need to do a complete reinstall. But before I do I wanna make a complete copy of primary drive (save the pictures of the kids = save face with the wife, ya know?).

Luckily, I have 3 separate SATA drives (all the same size) and all my 'save it or the wife will kill me' stuff is on drive #1. UBCD has a huge collection of disk tools. Which UCB 4.1.1 app/utility would I use to simply copy everything from drive #1 to drive #2 or #3?

As an aside, I was wondering if there is a 'newbies guide' to UBCD?

Download a small linux distro (Puppy Linux, Parted Magic, Slax) to copy your files to another drive.

Parted Magic (not the last version) is included in UBCD50b12.

If you Windows partition is formatted in NTFS, a linux distro is the easiest way to move/copy your files.
Download Ultimate Boot CD v5.0: http://www.ultimatebootcd.com/download.html
Use Parted Magic for handling all partitioning task: http://partedmagic.com/
