I have just joined and want to ask about a problem I am having.
I have used the ultimate boot cd before, but now I have a problem and don't know what part of the cd I should use.
I am using UBCD411.iso burned to a cd. the problem is:
HP laptop with windows XP Pro.
when you boot the laptop it comes up with "a disk read error occured"
I have used the HDD to boot another laptop so I know it is not the disk.
someone said that the ubcd had a program that could "fix" the hdd controller on the Motherboard.
I could not find it.
can someone lead the poor old new guy to the right place?
Since it IS saying "a disk read error occured", remove all cd/usb/hdd's from the system and try "booting" should say something like "no boot media found, please press something to restart/retry" if it does then try putting the HD into the system and see if the "disk read error" comes up again... if it does, then we know its the HD, try clearing your bios settings to factory defaults and trying again. Also make sure tht the HD's jumper settings are set properly (physically on the back of the drive).
If after removing all discs & drives (cd/dvd/usb/hdd) you recieve the error again, try resetting the bios to factory defaults...if that doesnt work, motherboard is bad...tho the last option would be to test the board with another PSU...and they can cause tons of random issues. If after trying with another PSU and you still get the error, the motherboard is confirmed bad.
Let us know how it goes! And good luck!
