Did you try to run the Windows XP isntall disc again, so you can format the partition again?
You can also try:
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=297185http://www.pctechbytes.net/forums/tips- ... me-xp.htmlYes I did: the CD copies the installation files to HDD normally during installation but when it restarts to continue install from the files copied to HDD the blue screen pops up. But now the installation just hangs and it doesn't even go into the installation menu

I was able to run an ISO image of Kubuntu from USB, installed gparted and ran it and I got this message:

Failed to mount '/dev/sda1' : input/output error. NTFS is inconsistent.
Run chkdsk /f on windows then reboot it TWICE!
The usage of the /f parameter is very IMPORTANT!
No modification was made to NTFS by this software.
ntfsresize v2.2.2 (libntfs 10:0.0)

Since I can't use the CD to do anything anymore, I searched and there is no chkdsk equivalent in Linux, so I have to use chkdsk, according to this list here:
http://www.ubcd4win.com/contents.htm chkdsk is included in UBCD but I couldn't find it, you mind telling me where/how i can run it please?
