I looked all over the site and wiki and couldn't find any documentation for how to use this disk or explanations on how to use the different tools on it.
While I was able to perform memory, harddrive, and other hardware checks myself, when I attempted to run a virus scan UBCD asked me from where to boot Aviera (I chose option 1, from the CD) then dumps me to a linux commandline with no instructions beyond "Press Alt+F7 to enter GUI mode", which just causes it to freeze.
I am mainly trying to figure out what is causing a friend's system to constantly crash, after confirming that none of the hardware appears damaged (Though I couldn't find a way to test anything other than the ram and harddrives, is there a way to test the other hardware or the CPU?) I wanted to run virus scans on it before I risked connecting it to my LAN so I can use online virus/malware scanners and other online tools through Windows Safe Mode.
Speaking of which, are there any rootkit detecting tools on this disk? I didn't see any in the software list, but I might have missed them.
Thanks.
Can't figure out Avira, is there any documentation for UBCD?

If you select option 1, you should see this screen after a few seconds:

Hmmm, that is most definitely not the screen I am getting. It appears that the GUI fails to load. Any suggestions?

Confirm your md5 hash of the downloaded ISO first, http://www.ultimatebootcd.com/download.html.
Second, if its not the same, try another mirror than you originally used.
