Please test it and report if something doesn't work.
If memdisk floppy emulation doesn't work for you, can you write down the 'invalid opcode' that you get, and try all bootoptions of the freedos image with memdisk emulation:

0 Boot Clean
1 Boot UMBPCI (silent)
2 Boot UMBPCI (optimal)
3 Boot UMBPCI (semi-defensive)
4 Boot EMM386 (optimal)
5 Boot EMM386 (semi-defensive)
6 Boot no UMB (defensive)
7 Boot no UMB (ultra-defensive)

And report which 'invalid opcodes' you get, and which entries boot.
Then try the same when using grub4dos floppy emulation.
So that the developers of memdisk can fix this issue.
Also try to run in from CD and USB, report the differences.

Alrighty then,,

Booted and went to the FreeDOS option and left all popups as default then started AIDA16 from the menu at the end - here are the results:

From isolinux/syslinux menu:

0) No problem
1) No problem
2) No problem
3) No problem
4) No problem
5) Houston, we have a problem - System reboots immediately if the "Running CD-Rom" is enabled - boots to prompt if disabled and all others left as default but can't start anything from CD obviously. Tried changing some of the config options but using CD so I don't think it saves the option changes, not sure though..
6) No problem
7) Boots to menu at end but when I start AIDA16 I get an error when scanning the Motherboard chipset. MB
Chipset error "dos mem corrupt, first_mcb=0253
some other stuff related to AIDA16....
If I hit the "esc" key 2 times it pops up:
Invalid Opcode at 05CB 9C00 7086 004F 349E FD4F 5E8C C7FA EE46 0321 02E9 8D05 F246

-------------------------------------------------------------

From grub4dos menu:

0) No problem
1) No problem
2) No problem
3) No problem
4) No problem
5) No problem
6) No problem
7) Same with different Opcode

Hope that helps..

Hi everybody,

I first would like to thank a lot everyone (Especially Victor) for all the great job accomplished on this excellent utilities' collection.

I propose to interested persons a French translation for this 5.0b12 release. I've translated all menus (Including pmagic, offline and dban ones), ubcd.ini and set the keyboard of fdubcd.igz image via GLOBAL.SET file.

I provide two files: an archive of all modified files and a xdelta patch for the official ISO.

I will try to follow future releases and I will improve the translation quality for the final 5.0 release.

Problems on this machine (ASUS K8V-XE, VIA K8T890, AMD Sempron64 3400+) were solved by adding the raw option to memdisk, but for reference the errors:
0 OK
1 Invalid opcode at 51C1 FFFF 0286 FFFC 0000 0000 0000 0000 FFFFC 0000 017C 0000 FFA6
2 Invalid opcode at 51C1 FFFF 0286 FFFC 0000 0000 0000 0000 FFFFC 0000 017C 0000 FFA6
3 OK
4 OK
5 Hangs after loading CD-ROM driver (have to press the reset button)
6 Invalid opcode at 4B41 FFFF 0206 A049 0014 0000 0001 0F51 0000 017C 0001 0014 0000
7 OK

Everything worked fine with grub4dos or memdisk with raw option.

Is there a full list somewhere with all the apps and/or a changelog comparing this with 4.x? Something similar to http://www.ultimatebootcd.com/history.html for the 4.x branch.

@dev: Nope. You must manually combine the changelogs for the individual beta releases.

What should I know about changing my motherboard? I need to change my motherboard and am wondering what will happen once I change it. Will I lose all my information on my harddrive? What should I be aware of? What things should I keep in mind? Any tips or advice?

with all due respect intended, I still keep a ubcd in my laptop backpack. when is v5 comming out of beta? its nothing personal but it seems to been a bit and some of the packages are seriously going of of date (eg. pmagic is working on version 4.5 and last saw you included 3.7)
