Re: starting parted magic from UBCD seems to hang

Is it showing the HDD at all? It is an older laptop but PartedMagic still may have issues with drivers (and the included version of PartedMagic is definitely dated). You can try downloading a newer version of Parted Magic -- https://partedmagic.com/ but they charge for it now, although the fee is re...

Re: starting parted magic from UBCD seems to hang

When you boot to the CD/DVD or USB device if you get to the first menu and select Parted Magic you'll get another menu for boot options for Parted Magic. Laptops often have issues with the graphics/displays. If it boots to "fail safe" mode you may be good or you may be able to adjust the boot parame...

Re: Why Gparted loads fail safe mode but not other?

As far as GParted and having to use "fail safe" mode --- You may be able to adjust the boot parameters to get your system to boot but often "fail safe" is just easier. This usually happens when a needed driver/module is not included in the system/Kernel or settings are not just right for your setup....

Have you tried running PartedMagic in "fail safe" mode? What is the model number of the laptop?

Re: Hard disk test with UEFI impossible ?

You can try putting the drive into an external enclosure. I've had some manufacturer's diagnostic tools work well enough over USB but some do not detect the drive or think they have "no media".

Re: Hard disk test with UEFI impossible ?

You can try adjusting the CSM setttings and sometimes you may have to adjust SATA/RAID settings as well. Although, if the controller drivers are not included in the drive testing tool or kernel you'll have issues with that as well. You can check out my post from the UBCD4Win section for some suggest...

Re: Help me: Blank Screen, Ultimate Boot CD will not load

First off - Check the video/monitor cable connections if you haven't. Then ---> I usually start by disconnecting all non-essential devices/parts like HDDs, USB devices, etc just to see if you can get to BIOS/Setup. Only leave Motherboard, Processor, Ram and Video card (if you have one). If you have ...

Re: Speak:Hell is a simple program that WILL NOT work

This should have been posted in the UBCD4Win area.

What source files did you use?

Did you add any driver packs or add any other plugins?

What are the system specs for the PC that your booting? Will it boot to any other systems?

Any errors when attempting to boot? What is it doing?

Re: Advice Needed - Running UBCD on an Intel iMac

Do you have video corruption when running Mac OSX and can you boot any other live distros?

If you have any other compatible video cards you can try swapping that out just for testing purposes.

The iMac I have is PowerPC so can't use on that but you have a chance, I couldn't confirm though.

Re: Where's the gui?

Some more information would be helpful.

What did you download? UBCD or UBCD4Win?

As you say you spent time finding the "ISO" I'm going to AssUMe UBCD. Did you get a menu at all when it booted?

What are you booting it on? BIOS or UEFI? Model number would help a lot.

The best source of info would be -> https://web.archive.org/web/20121113163012/http://ubcd4win.com:80/forum/index.php? I know some of the NVidia drivers were problematic but thought most of that was cleared up when the BTS driver packs started being used. I often had issues with my Asus P4PE motherb...

Re: Help fixing hd with UBCD

Burn the UBCD ISO to a CD/USB and boot into PartedMagic, use that to copy any data if possible so if it does get bricked, your data is safe. After saving any data, use the manufacturer's diagnostics included in UBCD to scan the drive (both short and long tests). After you confirm the drive to be goo...

Re: Unlock Password Locked PC Hard Drive

I'm not familiar with that model of laptop but you should be able to put a BIOS/UEFI admin password that will not allow changes but still allow the laptop to be booted although that's not going to help with the "already affected" systems. You can also put a master password (NOT boot password) on the...

Try booting to another "Live" CD/DVD/USB to see if you can at least get something to load. Can you get into BIOS/UEFI without a crash? Heating issues can often cause odd behavior.

UBCD4Win is discontinued, what do we do now?

Diagnostic / Repair Utilities have come a long way since UBCD4Win and I thought I'd create a small starter post of some of the ones that I have come across. Some need to be built similar to UBCD4Win and some can be downloaded in ISO format. I have mostly used Linux Boot CDs/DVDs over the last severa...

Re: Query regarding duration of Mersenne Prime Test v28.5

It will keep running until you stop it. I usually ran these programs for 10-12 hours and sometimes more just to check stability of the system. If the system hasn't crashed it's usually stable.

I don't recall ever having any log files created.

It appears the main site is down as well now... This was a great tool for many years and I still keep a couple versions/ISOs on my Zalman VE-300 just in case I need to work on an XP system. As a replacement for older systems, I usually move these users to Linux distros such as Lubuntu, Xubuntu and L...
