I didn't try this yet, but the GParted liveCD might be a good candidate too (170 MiB):

To have GParted available in UBCD for resizing/creating partitions is an advantage.

Re: Problems with UBCD since 5.2.x
The version of syslinux shouldn't matter as MEMDISK is not really related to the syslinux version. MEMDISK doesn't depend on Syslinux (any bootlaoder that supports loading linux kernel images works fine with MEMDISK). The difference between MEMDISK 4.04 and 4.06 could just be that is it compiled wit...

Re: Problems with UBCD since 5.2.x
Try with different memdisk parameters to see if that solves the problem: raw Use raw access to protected mode memory. bigraw Use raw access to protected mode memory, and leave the CPU in "big real" mode afterwards. int Use plain INT 15h access to protected memory. This assumes that anythin...

@Icecube: I'm requesting you permission to release this image under the name 'CPUstress'. If you're reading this, please answer me if you permit me or not. (If not, then I'll rename my project.) This question is to avoid copyright problems in the future. You can use the same name. I don't have time...

Re: How to create a disk to bypass the loss of my password ?
The free version of KonBoot included in UBCD should work for old versions of Windows. Kon-Boot is an application which will silently bypass the authentication process of Windows based operating systems.Without overwriting your old password! Easy to use and excellent for tech repairs, data recovery a...

Re: UBCD architecture / design
ISOLINUX/SYSLINUX is the default boot loader, but some people prefer grub4dos for their multiboot CD or USB stick. One reason why the grub4dos menu was introduced, was because some floppy images didn't boot with MEMDISK on some PCs, while they worked fine with grub4dos. This was solved by adding 'ra...

Re: Data Recovery
Use Photorec to recover files. Be sure that you save your files on another drive/partition. Saving recovered file on the same partition, is a very bad idea.

Re: New to UBCD
First of all, it is Parted Magic.
Do you keep the USB drive in your PC during the whole Parted Magic session and only removed it when your PC was shutdown again?
Or did you remove the USB drive before the PC was shutdown?

Just tried the latest version. Same problem as before: http://www.ultimatebootcd.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=245 I suspect the OS switches to 32-bit mode and cannot find the emulated hardware anymore. This problem might disappear soon :D : http://visopsys.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=156

Parted Magic has also a list of tools to wipe the hard drive. It can execute the secure erase command of the hard drive, which is considered the most secure way to wipe a hard disk and also one of the fastest.

Re: UBCD 5.1 kernel panic running Prime Test
The current Parted Magic kernel included in UBCD5.1 won't work with the CPUstress initrd on any PC. The current Parted Magic kernel doesn't support mounting the ext2 formatted initrd, but probably only initramfs. The CPUstress initrd should move to the initramfs format anyway.
