what kind of CD do i use? and how do i backup the files?

Hi there. I just got a ultimate boot CD and i need to fix our old computer(which won't boot). The computer is an HP and we haven't used it for a couple years.I have a lot of files such as pics, music,etc. and i know that they will be deleted if i "wipe" the hard drive(s). Is there any tool...
