Pink dots could be from the fact your computer is extremely old...Try using latest beta of UBCD5.0 and see if the problem is still there.

Im guessing your windows cd is scratched or dirty. Gently clean it with soap and water (or isopropyl alcohol) and dry it off completely and then try again.

Hi, Welcome to the forums ed.

Have you tried booting into Parted Magic and seeing if the drive is detected and accessable? That's what I would recommend for you at this point.
