Re: Suggestions for replacement of Parted Magic
well Parted Magic just broke for me for one use. Flash. I don't have flash on my browser normally because of security issues, so when I need it I just boot something light like Parted Magic. The script that downloads flash broke today. I dug into it and it has to pull something from http://beefdrape...

Re: UBCD 5.2.1 & 5.2.2 - Firefox in Parted Magic is a real d
I would suggest trying latest UBCD (v5.2.3) which uses 2013_2_28_i586 or manually updating to the latest version of Parted Magic which was just released: Parted Magic 2013_05_01 Download: http://partedmagic.com/doku.php?id=downloads This may fix your problem. Same issue after upgrading my USB stick...

Re: How to fdisk /mbr?
Ah, this page says that FDISK /MBR is a secret or undocumented feature to overwrite and recreate the Master Boot Record * FreeDOS probably implements this * Gparted can totally overwrite and recreate this (this would be my first choice as I'm use to it and it has a nice GUI, but it may be too much f...

Re: How to fdisk /mbr?
What I exactly want to achieve is easy: Delete/Overwrite as much as possible on a hard disk with a bootable CD. The aim of deleting your hard disk most closely matches: 1. I want to do a clean install on this drive. The existing data must not interfere with the new software. Then what I gave you ab...

Re: How to fdisk /mbr?
I'm not real familiar with DOS commands, I moved to linux over a decade ago. I think you want to format a disk or something and put FAT32 or NTFS. There are a bunch of ways to do this, but I'll try to talk you through using Parted Magic. 1. Boot UBCD 2. Select Parted Magic. If the first menu option ...

Re: (Testing thread)Super Grub2 Disk 2.00 beta 4
adrian15,
I found the mailing list, will subscribe shortly after I configure a new email address.
I also found the github repository at git://git.berlios.de/supergrub but the last version avaiable with anonymous Git access is dated 2009. Could you do an "expermental" release for beta5?

Re: (Testing thread)Super Grub2 Disk 2.00 beta 4
adrian15sgd, Since you understand loop booting in grub2 far better than myself, I'll ask you. Would it be possible to create a loopback.cfg file for UBCD ? Adding such a file to UBCD should not interfere with the normal usage. it would also make testing new versions of the UBCD much easier. Example:...

Re: (Testing thread)Super Grub2 Disk 2.00 beta 4
On first glance, the issues regarding the jitter I saw in SG2D 2.00 beta 1-3 appear to be gone. The specific types of jitter were different on different machines. On my Dad's PC the were only "speckles". The usibiltiy was much better. I will be giving beta 4 some more testing in the next f...

Re: (Testing thread)Super Grub2 Disk 2.00 beta 4
adrian15sgd, I'm comparing your autoiso.cgf to the one I found here . While you left the original copyright notice intact, I think you ought to seriously consider adding your own notes: # Modified on 04may2013 by adrian15sgd for Super Grub2 Disk 2.00 Not only in the header, but next to, or inside th...

possible inclusion of "Super Grub2 Disk 2.00 beta 3" in UBCD
The inital menu looks ok, but this is what happens when I hit the down arrow once. grubprompt.jpg This is after hitting "c" to get me to the grub> prompt, and typing "reboot". A top-half line of the same text appears above where it should have. grubprompt.jpg Since one of the fea...

Re: consider adding or updating Super Grub2 Disk 2.00 beta 1
...In fact, recent versions of Parted Magic are supposedly loop bootable, so this is a good way (if it works) to try out the bleeding edge of Parted Magic without going through the effort involved with remastering via the pm2ubcd script (which I haven't tried either) Just tried it. Does not work fo...

Re: consider adding or updating Super Grub2 Disk 2.00 beta 1
Could you give me an idea of the kinds of bug we are talking about in the current version? Yes, but to verify, you'll need to do some work. The included version of Super Grub2 disk has an earlier version of the "loop booting" code (as an aside, the code was written in lua, while the versi...

consider adding or updating Super Grub2 Disk 2.00 beta 1+
I've been doing a lot of "loop booting" of Ubuntu isos. This is done by d/l any of a number of OS iso image files and placing them in a directory called /boot-isos or /boot/boot-isos/ and then having the Suoer Grub2 disk detect them via a menu option. These iso images may then be booted wi...

Re: Wake-on-LAN
That's not ideal, mostly because of how long PartedMagic takes to start up, but it's an option. Perhaps someone can find a DOS utility for FreeDOS that'd make things quicker... http://gammadyne.com/cmdline.htm Look at the one on the bottom, WOL.exe . Unknown if they work in Freedos. Re: Wake-on-LAN
Don't get me wrong, I completely understand the usefulness of WOL itself. It's just the idea of performing the activations from a recovery environment that strikes me as unusual. (At work) send WOL to home PC :: using Clonzilla or Rsync, back up lappy486 :: ssh into home box and shut it down when d...

Do you think you can post your system specs to better determine the issue? I will be testing this to see what's going on. Gigabyte MoBo, ga-ep43-ud3l Pentium(R) Dual-Core CPU E5400 @ 2.70GHz 2 GiB DDR2 ram Booting off a CD, since I hosed my USB stick with UBCD trying to go from 5.2.1 to 5.2.2 Can't...
