Glad it worked for you. Its good to hear that is working well with Ubuntu 10.4 - I was looking to try it out with it just to see how 10.4 looks and feels.

Go to Dell.com and download a recent Dell Diagnostics package (I used the one from Dell E6400). Run the install and once it extracts it loads up a program that will either create you a bootable .img file (that you can then use the memdisk to load (it works), or it can create iso for you, or even ca...

Can we get a *official* ubcd Wiki? I would like to contribute and post some of what I know (if only for my personal reference down the line etc.). StopSpazzing - I like your Wiki. Its clean and has potential. I tried registering but currently registration seems to be locked. However I think it would...

I build and maintain a custom version of UBCD for my team. I have ripped a lot of the extra tools and put in what I need. I customized the menus to be more suited to what I use it for.. Currently my list of applications looks something like this: Memory test (memtest+ and memtest+86) CPU stress test...

Ubuntu 9.10, Syslinux, UBCD 5 : 3 Step How-To Guide
Hi, I have been able to add and run Ubuntu 9.10 off of my UBCD build. I am running syslinux 3.84. 1) I have downloaded the Ubuntu 9.10 Desktop ISO, extracted it, and deleted everything BUT these folders (please let me know if I can delete more!): .disk casper dists pool preseed 2) I then transferred...

I use -f (force) and force FAT32 because i found it was the best way to get it to work with USB sticks and HDDs. Apparently it will not want to install syslinux to USBHDD unless syslinux is forced and the FAT32 is due to some obscure issue i encountered randomly. I have been using my build of UBCD w...

Two questions: 1. Can you use diskpart or whatever and manually format the usb stick to fat32 with default options? It sounds like ubcd script doesnt force fat32 if fat is current. This might fix your problem/warning related to cluster size (which shouldnt be there). 2. What command are you using to...

You will need to read the forums and documentation a little more. It sounds like you are not sure what you are doing and I am not sure thats something we can/want to teach/fix here. To install to USB you need to run the ubcd2usb.cmd file located in the tools folder. It will take care of formatting t...

Hi cripp7, See this thread:http://www.ultimatebootcd.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=1931 It doesnt completely answer your question but it gives some more info with ubcd and multiple OS/diag/tools. The Tool booting should be possible without too much trouble. Its a matter of mapping out WIM files and so ...

Not necessarily diagnostic tool but Microsoft Vista and later bootloader now support EFI (apparently). There is a folder called EFI in each cd/dvd. I suppose you could use Windows Recovery Environment and/or the windows built in memory test. Not much but just thought i would give you a heads up. ~ dpc

Re: custom images wont boot
Unclejoe thanks for following up and helping locate that syslinux issue. I know it can be time consuming to test and document these things. Much appreciated. I know its piracy from what i have read To my knowledge UBCD doesnt use anything that violates any licenses and/or pirates. I did some researc...

MEMDISK-ISO same as MEMDISK?
I noticed 5.0RC1 has a MEMDISK and a MEMDISK-ISO file. Is there any difference in the two? I was under the impression memdisk now supports iso booting.

btw, the most recent version of Dell Diags that I have found were from the file listing for the XPS M1530 Dell has several diagnostic packages each targeting different machines. I have a set of three that I currently use that cover most/all of the dell machines I have worked on. I personally like t...
