Re: Explorer's modification of CPUstress image
Apparently, the "append -" in the cfg files had a certain effect when parsed with the syslinux2grub4dos "sed" scripts :?: . I think in these lines of syslinux2grub4dos.sed you can see it (182 -194): # Rearrange all entries with 'LINUX' + 'APPEND -' # # Change: # LINUX /ubcd/boot...

Re: bootmgr compressed...which app to use from UBCD, and how
ntfs-3g is contained in parted magic and capable of reading/writing compressed data too. Could possibly work but I guess it's safer with the original windows install disk.

2Mb/sec (16mbit!) from Crete, that's a great mirror!
And congratulations to you Victor! After a few minutes of download I could yet test a little in qemu-KVM and it looks great on first sight.

Great! And thanks for distributing the info about upx in your build.gz. Didn't know about this very usefull executable-compression-utility.

As you keep ldlinux and isolinux.bin in the same folder too, this shouldn't be a problem for these two.Victor Chew wrote:Any downside to that?

Re: When booting fdubcd via grub4dos, fdubcd is not found.
I may add, that I personally absolutely favor the iso-variant. If fdubcd has another solution, be it hdd-image or superfloppy, it will be the only one among all those other isos that are part of the total UBCD. The iso remains also the most compatible in terms of customization for the greater public...

Re: UBCD V5.2 discussion
Exactly, only if a writable medium is used, and be it a virtual hdd-image, then this behaviour gets annoying. And I repeat, other than that, if the current behaviour persists, the image should not be made smaller, since it's size is the size of the available "ramdisk" - for it becomes the ...

Re: UBCD V5.2 discussion
No, a "real" ramdisk isn't created. The image is becoming that ramdisk. As you see in the following screenshot, C: contains everything after boot (obvius e.g. through folders TMP or USR) and gets renamed to RAMDISK. So even the label changes. http://i.imgur.com/4Rw5O.jpg If I try to boot f...

Re: UBCD V5.2 discussion
I have today experimented with my proposed linux approach of using dd to create a smaller image. Works as intended. I could create a 17MB image dd if=/dev/zero of=my_hdd.img bs=1M count=17 which was partitioned and formated to FAT16 by the current FreeDOS-CD in a VM (qemu) - a 16MB image would have ...

Re: UBCD V5.2 discussion
Maybe you could give linux a try
http://www.syslinux.org/wiki/index.php/Hard_disk_images
This would give you more control about the outcome I guess.

Re: UBCD V5.2 discussion
Congratulations Victor to the next mile-stone! Since you are still in alpha-phase, may I point to the floppy-tools section that I also added in the OmniBoot-mod of fdubcd.iso? They are all free tools and have a tiny size. Of course these are vintage applications, but I have the strong feeling, as if...

Re: UBCD V5.2 discussion
About 100 different keyboards compared to about 20? Just have a look at /FREEDOS/PACKAGES/BASE/KEYBX.ZIP. Bad news. It will be quite difficult to replace mkeyb with keyb in FD11. The two programs are just too different. It will require the current keyboard cab to be redone from scratch. Well, I am ...

Re: UBCD 5.1 kernel panic running Prime Test
Thanks a lot for the info, I have yet downloaded the build-file. Didn't imagine the binary could be compressed, I just compressed the whole filesystem, but with gzip only my compressed fs still is ~20% larger than yours
.

Re: UBCD V5.2 discussion
... FDUBCD can be started in several "modes", including customizing each startup line with F8. So I don't understand the reason not to include AleGr as it was before.... I think because fdubcd needs a ram-disk to expand the binaries of Alegr which are included in dos.cabs only. It would o...
