Re: Suggestions for replacement of Parted Magic
Features page of gparted is a good read on what should be included. http://gparted.org/features.php fdisk is not used by gparted or parted. Historically fdisk was included as a fail over location. parted by script can be got todo everything fdisk does and more. Victor Chew debian has recommended(add...

Victor Chew if you have not found this yet. If you are making debian live cds a lot it pays to follow. http://live.debian.net/ other name live-systems.org Yes debian has claimed quite a cool domain. Re: Suggestions for replacement of Parted Magic
Victor Chew I see you did what I said. And you are seeing exactly what I was expecting. ady Regarding GParted latest version, after reading your post I tried to build a new xzm module and load it in Porteus 3.0 LXDE i486. For some reason, I have only a partial success. I'll investigate more. There i...

Re: Suggestions for replacement of Parted Magic
Yes one ot the things I did ask early on was what tools do we want.
gparted due to what it is brings a list of restrictions on how it should be provided.

Re: Suggestions for replacement of Parted Magic
The Piney and StopSpazzing main reason for wanting gparted/parted is the collection of tools with it. Yes even with all the tools included by default on ubcd it does not have particular filesystem ones like ntfsfix. Yes you have a windows machine that will not repair by windows install disc there is...

Re: Suggestions for replacement of Parted Magic
Requires ntfs-3g advanced release version >= 2012.1.15AR to change UUID. The ntfs-3g stable version 2012.1.15 does not yet support changing NTFS UUID. adythe problem is properly requires exact versions forms of ntfs-3g and particular avoid particular versions as well. Re: Suggestions for replacement of Parted Magic
ady In fact, Porteus already comes with GParted, so no user needs to install any additional dependencies, nor anything else for that matter, just to use GParted. And scream at us when it does not work with for example NTFS correctly or some other file system gparted live support perfectly out box. h...

Re: Suggestions for replacement of Parted Magic
So, either download the .deb package from GParted's site (e.g. for GParted 'testing'), or use Porteus Package Manager. This shows you don't understand the problem. Gparted deb only contains the GUI. All operations by Gparted are done by file management tools in background so dependancies. Get depen...

Re: Suggestions for replacement of Parted Magic
ady there is a con but you have called it postive. The con Porteus due to being slackware based instead of debian. Some of the issues with parted magic at times come from the same issue of not being debian based. Gparted developers test with debian including debian kernels. So no major supprises whe...

Re: Suggestions for replacement of Parted Magic
To justify "officially" merging some GNU/Linux Live ISO image into UBCD, it has to be light in resources (low RAM required, low CPU required, low size required), updated tools, actively maintained, *easy* customization by additional modules (such as testdisk, clamAV,...), user-friendly GU...

Re: Suggestions for replacement of Parted Magic
Personally I say drop Partedmagic and put in the gparted instead. http://gparted.org/livecd.php Gparted the upstream just use debian livecd's. Anything happens to gparted we don't have the partitioning tool either. Gparted is customisable pulling in built debian packages. So now the question becomes...
