Re: Advice Needed - Running UBCD on an Intel iMac

Do you have video corruption when running Mac OSX and can you boot any other live distros?

If you have any other compatible video cards you can try swapping that out just for testing purposes.

The iMac I have is PowerPC so can't use on that but you have a chance, I couldn't confirm though.

Re: Where's the gui?

Some more information would be helpful.

What did you download? UBCD or UBCD4Win?

As you say you spent time finding the "ISO" I'm going to AssUMe UBCD. Did you get a menu at all when it booted?

What are you booting it on? BIOS or UEFI? Model number would help a lot.

The best source of info would be -> https://web.archive.org/web/20121113163012/http://ubcd4win.com:80/forum/index.php? I know some of the NVidia drivers were problematic but thought most of that was cleared up when the BTS driver packs started being used. I often had issues with my Asus P4PE motherb...

Re: Help fixing hd with UBCD

Burn the UBCD ISO to a CD/USB and boot into PartedMagic, use that to copy any data if possible so if it does get bricked, your data is safe. After saving any data, use the manufacturer's diagnostics included in UBCD to scan the drive (both short and long tests). After you confirm the drive to be goo...

Re: Unlock Password Locked PC Hard Drive

I'm not familiar with that model of laptop but you should be able to put a BIOS/UEFI admin password that will not allow changes but still allow the laptop to be booted although that's not going to help with the "already affected" systems. You can also put a master password (NOT boot passwo...

What model of laptop? Is it running BIOS or UEFI? If it is running UEFI you can try changing the CSM settings but this may not help.

What is it you are trying to do?

Re: Laptop stuck in bootloop

Try booting to another "Live" CD/DVD/USB to see if you can at least get something to load. Can you get into BIOS/UEFI without a crash? Heating issues can often cause odd behavior.

UBCD4Win is discontinued, what do we do now?

Diagnostic / Repair Utilities have come a long way since UBCD4Win and I thought I'd create a small starter post of some of the ones that I have come across. Some need to be built similar to UBCD4Win and some can be downloaded in ISO format. I have mostly used Linux Boot CDs/DVDs over the last severa...

Re: Query regarding duration of Mersenne Prime Test v28.5

It will keep running until you stop it. I usually ran these programs for 10-12 hours and sometimes more just to check stability of the system. If the system hasn't crashed it's usually stable.

I don't recall ever having any log files created.

It appears the main site is down as well now... This was a great tool for many years and I still keep a couple versions/ISOs on my Zalman VE-300 just in case I need to work on an XP system. As a replacement for older systems, I usually move these users to Linux distros such as Lubuntu, Xubuntu and L...

Re: Help mounting RAID drives

Sorry, that should be striping. http://www.thegeekstuff.com/2010/08/raid-levels-tutorial As this has no parity, chances of saving the data will much less likely. As opposed to mirrored drives which is basically 2 copies of all the data, RAID "0" is stored across the drives in blocks/stripe...

Re: Help mounting RAID drives

What RAID level... If it's stripped I'm not sure how best to proceed. If it's a simple mirror you can try to recover from any drives in the array unless one has damage/corruption then you can switch to the other drive. If your trying to mount from PartedMagic or other Linux distro you can try adding...

Not a problem.

I just try to "give back" when I can as this project has been very useful over the years. If it really helps you, consider donating.

Re: DVD drive reads DVD when booting but no UBCD menu shown

This would probably be best posted in "Support and Troubleshooting". As to your question/issue... Is this system BIOS or UEFI based? If UEFI, that may be your main problem. What CSM settings for boot device? Can you try booting in a BIOS based system to confirm that the CD/DVD is working? ...

Re: Black screen when I am waiting for Parted Magic to setup

UEFI support is currently buggy at best as most of the tools in UBCD are designed for BIOS based systems.

You can search the forum for some suggestions regarding CSM settings to try to get it to boot but still not sure what programs/tools are going to work correctly if at all.

Is this a multi pass erase? If so, you are just using up limited writes to the drive.

Some info on wiping HDDs and SSDs.

UBCD is Linux/DOS based programs. You may be looking for UBCD4Win but that project has stopped all activity. There are projects available to create "live / PE" environments similar to UBCD4Win but using more recent Windows versions. Avira has a free bootable/live CD available as do many ot...
