Ultimate boot disk IS NOT BOOTING

#1 Post by Tamara » Fri Sep 19, 2008 11:59 am

I burned the ISO file to a CD as an image... ubcd411.iso VERSION USED

I have a sony ux280p laptop that I formatted the hard drive, but had to format again because of a problem installing the XP OS.... and the XP install will not complete......

I wanted to boot this cd and use the disk toolz to see if the disk is bad, BUT IT WILL NOT BOOT with this CD.

The error I get is "Operating system Not Found"

The XP bootable CD I made from scratch will boot, but this ULTIMATE BOOT DISK will not boot

What gives?

Did you change the BIOS boot order?
See that the CD drive is set before the hard drive, else the BIOS will try to boot the hard disk (which probably contains a little working part of the windows install).

If you have more CD drives, try to put the CD in the other CDROM/DVD station.

Yes, I know how to configure the bios. That was the first thing I did.

Anyone have any suggestions with more technical knowledge behind the response?

Can you write down the text that you see when you boot your PC?

Try the UBCD CD in another PC to verify that you can boot from this CD correctly, else burn it again.

I was having problems with the cd I burned not booting as well. I then realized I had tried to save the file from a link and the ISO file I had burned was really only a few hundred kilobytes. I didn't receive any errors so perhaps I was missing just a chunk of the iso. Try instead downloading the self-extracting exe file if you did not before. Hope this helps!
