Recovering Data from Harddrive.

#1 Post by echang » Fri Oct 10, 2008 2:06 pm

I have Sony laptop running Vista in which it won't boot. Running the Vista Restore CD doesn't do anything. Running the harddrive diagonstics on UBCD shows many sector errors on the harddrive. Since I can't just plug another harddrive into the laptop, how can I restore my data from the harddrive. There are some very important files in there that I need. Any help would be appreciated.

If the laptop has a burner you could boot to a live CD such as Knoppix, Damn Small Linux, etc and then burn the files over or use a USB flash disk... After recovering the files you can then format and reload the system without worrying about further data loss..
