Fujitsu HDD diag tool doesn't start

Newbie here. Burned UBCD, booted and selected Fujitsu tool under HDD diagnostics. Went thru a bunch of screens with timeouts and ended up at prompt "Q>". The Fujitsu tool did not start, and Dosapps dir cannot be seen. All I can see is drives A and Q with similar structure but without what I need. Environment variable bcdw_cdrom mentioned in FAQ doesn't seem to exist either. If it's relevant, I am getting a beep I think when a CDROM driver is loaded, and there is a message that no drive is detected (or something like that). What should I do? Thanks
