If you have a tutorial or tip related to the UBCD, why not share it with other users here?

How to change a filename

#1 Post by StephSVA » Thu Nov 05, 2009 4:05 pm

I need to change my C:\boot.ini to C:\boot.ini.bak

The support person that is helping me fix my computer suggested I could use UBCD to do this but they are unfamiliar with the program and can not guide me.

Can I do this with this program?

My computer will not boot into safe mode or normal mode. I used the msconfig to try to get to safe mode and since that does not work it is stuck. I have already gotten the computer to boot to the UBCD disk.

Thanks!

You can boot your computer if you have your Windows Install CD, just choose Recovery Console.

I doubt anything on the UBCD would be able to read/write to an NTFS partition, but the UBCD FreeDOS > Press enter for the first choice > Launch the UBCD Applications. Check some of those, I'm not very sure you'll find one that would allow you to edit the boot.ini or rename it, but its worth looking.

If you download UBCD50RC1, you can use Parted Magic for accessing NTFS (and other filesystems).
Download Ultimate Boot CD v5.0: http://www.ultimatebootcd.com/download.html
Use Parted Magic for handling all partitioning task: http://partedmagic.com/
