The following text might need a slight update / tweak:
MENU LABEL Memtest86+ V4.20
TEXT HELP
A port of Memtest86 that is up-to-date and completly reliable, which is aimed
at memory failures detection. Detects all current chipsets and displays useful
information.
ENDTEXT
specially the "up-to-date" part (and "completly" should be "completely") .

The original Memtest86 v3.5 was released in 2009. Memtest86+ v4.20, released 2011JAN25, was based on Memtest86 v3.x. Memtest86 is now at version 4.1.0, released during 2013JAN.

Since both boot entries, for Memtest86 v4.1.0 and for Memtest86+ v4.20, are located one right after the other in UBCD, it might be worth updating the text of Memtest86+ v4.20 to reflect that Memtest86+ v4.20 is based on Memtest86 v3.x, which is currently not the latest version. This would avoid the potential confusion (that "v4.20" of one utility would be an update on "v4.1.0" of the other, which is clearly not the case). The two utilities are indeed similar, but developed independently.

BTW and FWIW, Passmark is now "in charge" (in control) of Memtest86. Version 4.1.0 is still released under GPL.

Victor,

I wonder if the dual 32/64 bits SMP PAE version of PMagic is the one that should be included by default in UBCD. Maybe the i586 version, or the i686 one, might be more adequate to be included in official UBCD releases, and the dual 32/64 bits SMP PAE PMagic release is more adequate for customization?

In UBCD52b3 -> fdubcd.img -> DOSAPPS -> ubcd.ini, the version is still set as
5.2b2
.

The following text might need a slight update / tweak:
Done! Changed to:

Code: Select all

A port of Memtest86 V3.x which is aimed at memory failures detection. Detects all current chipsets and displays useful information. Note that Memtest86 itself is now at V4.x, so the two utilities are now similar but independent.

Excellent comment. I will include the lowest common denominator (i586) then.

Thanks. Have made a note so that I won't forget to update.
