The free version of Killdisk doesn't offer anything new that isn't already on UBCD: http://www.killdisk.com/

Acronis True Image WD Edition is a Windows program. In Parted Magic, you can find cloning tools.

Hello,

as for 5.0b12 release, I propose a French translation of this nice release.

I provide two files: an archive of all modified files and a xdelta patch for the official 5.0rc1 ISO.

A big thanks for the great work and see you next release.

@Astral God: Thanks for the help offer, the harder problem is to had French keyboard support to busybox for some utilities (offline, dban...) as the keymap are not included by default. I hope finding a solution before final release.

Neither of those download links work for me. The first one only has beta12 for download, and the torrent link is dead.

There is a working mirror that I found through google though: http://www.myubcd.com/

Downloaded it using their torrent file and the md5sum matches.

Added http://www.myubcd.com/ as mirror in first post.

I fixed the download page on: http://ubcd.linuxfreedom.com/ (It was correct a few days ago, maybe a backup replaced the newer version of that page).
You can always see the iso files on that server: ftp://linuxfreedom.com/ubcd/

Glad this has come out. I'll give a mirror as soon as final is released.

Hi, I'm new here. I have the pro edition of Kill Disk that has more in depth wiping options basically. I was wondering if I took the killdisk.cab file, extracted and replaced the files inside with the pro files, if it would still work? I'm going to give it a shot.

Torrent link is dead (again?), I went to the myubcd.com and used that torrent.

Here's the direct link...

+1 can't wait to see the final release...

PDF = Must, RDP = Pretty Please, *.cab = WINE?

RE: Cab files - those are windows files, so that's probably not practical unless they decide to and are in fact able to use WINE. I think speed has to considered when deciding to or not to use WINE.

That being said I would really like to be able to use remote desktop (RDP) back to my Windows PC and or client systems. I know there are RDP clients for Linux, but not sure they work with the UDCB window manager. RDP and VNC are undoubtedly the two most popular remote access formats.

Since the main purpose of the UBCD is to fix things, PDF support is an absolute must. Will you add that?

PDF Support: It turns out there is already a PDF Viewer installed and FireFox just doesn't know about it. So if you tell firefox to open /user/bin/epdfview every time that'll work.

Remote Desktop: Yep that's in there too, but support is console based. Please add a text file or batch file (not sure what the correct linux lingo would be) that tells the user to type:
rdesktop -uadministrator -server 10.0.0.50
(where administrator is the user name and and 10.0.0.50 is the ip and hostname you want to connect to)
In fact maybe said shell script could prompt the user for the hostname/ip and then the user name.

Nice work this release of v5rc1...
I tested 2 or 3 tools which are working perfectly ( G-parted ! , memtest 4...) and even without having to use the grub4dos menu ( requested for my system with the previous version... ( and G-parted stopped to work on my system after V5 beta 5 !! ))
There is only one thing I would like to see : the ability to have ubcd booting on a EXFAT partition...And thanks again for the hard work..

Adding 'raw' to MEMDISK solved some issues with booting the freedos image:

Booting from EXFAT isn't going to happen soon (if it ever will). There are no free specifications available for EXFAT, so writing a driver for it, is a bit like writing the NTFS driver in the past. There is a start of a read only driver for EXFAT for linux, but it is not really tested. Syslinux and grub4dos can't read EXFAT (and thus can't boot from it). An EXFAT driver for DOS does need to be written for the FreeDos image. EXFAT is much simpler than NTFS, but by looking at the state of the current NTFS drivers for DOS, I don't expect a driver soon if any will exist in the future. Blame Microsoft for not releasing free specs.

Let me correct myself: when I spoke of G-parted, I mean Parted magic of course :)
Concerning the ex-fat, thank for the precision, no thanks to Microsoft as usual...( albeit there is hope (or not) in Microsoft as it can't make a software as simple than its Win2usb without using open source :)

And last thing, if memtest+ v4 works, Memtest86 v3 crashes after 2 or 3 s !

The writers of the ntfs-3g linux driver have a license for exfat.
