Ultimate Boot CD

XP cannot boot.
It fails after displaying Mup.sys
Then it starts over.
When I use my Windows CD, I cannot get into the recovery panel.
It hangs up when accessing the HD.

PartedMagic can successfully read the data on the HD.

I suspect that some of the HD data required for bootup is corrupt.

Any suggestions what I should do?

Boot to Parted Magic and copy the data you need to recover to another drive/device and do a fresh install of XP.

After you finish your back up, and before reinstalling XP, you may want to test your HDD with the utilities included in UBCD, according to the HDD's manufacturer.

Even if you already installed XP again, you still can use those test utilities.
