How to update INSERT?
Hello, I've downloaded the last version of INSERT and the full version of UBCD with INSERT, but the version of INSERT in UBCD is older that the newest one, so, how can I update it from my Insert ISO image? I wanted just to replace the INSERT/INSERT file with the one from the new INSERT image but the file in the UBCD is much more bigger than the one in INSERT ISO image, how is this possible?
How to update INSERT?
The larger INSERT contained in the UBCD Full version is
a modified copy of Insert. It includes a few other programs
and libraries. See http://www.ultimatebootcd.com/insert/start.html
for details.
Unfortunately some of the links in the "Additional Resources"
section are broken, which describe how to add Knoppix and Linux
based distributions to UBCD. http://www.ultimatebootcd.com/customize.html
I expect to update Insert for the next release but if you want to
update it now you can try to:
- Replace all files in the /INSERT directory
- Replace all files in the /isolinux directory
This should pretty much work, although some of the help screens
won't word since the last time I checked, they were hardcoded
in the Insert distribution.

Charles told us recently he has to relocate to another country with possibly limited connectivity, so INSERT will definitely not be updated for UBCD V3.4. If anyone is keen to do it, please let me know and we will try to work out something.
Note that I do not have much knowledge about INSERT, so we will definitely need Charles' help if someone is keen to pick up from where he left off.

I've get the beta version of INSERT 1.3.6 from Matthias at the end of november. It's working fine with UBCD 3.3.
Matthias said that it's already done but he wants to keep it with 50MB limit before he will release it as final (the ISO is 51.46MB).
I've tested it sometime (I've merged it in UBCD 3.3) and I had no problems with it.
I think it can and should be merged with UBCD 3.4 release.

They are pretty old, I hope the things are still the same.

Would be nice to add at least some of the UBCD Insert changes to the new insert before including it in UBCD (like: xvncviewer, netcat, Qtparted, UBCD Insert modules support).xeros wrote:I think it can and should be merged with UBCD 3.4 release.
Ofcourse several things are now in INSERT already: nmap, smartmontools, rdesktop, cpio, samba (client-only), ClamAV signatures, and probabbly the knoppix wireless devices.
I'll take a look at it if/when I have time.
