All OK but.... how does it work actually??

I downloaded the ISO burned it to a CD and booted my XP computer that won't otherwise boot in windows due to a pre-windows diagnostic program (O&OBLUECON) installed and uninstalled (now blue screen saying it's missing a OOTMAPI.DLL).
I thought I could just boot with UBCD, go under the windows folder and restore a previous registry backup (ERUNT backs up the registry every time I start windows, so very straightforward to restore a backup before the diagnostic program installation).
Unfortunately it's not that simple! :( I tried the DOS navigator and Volkov Commander but I don't have a clue as where to find the Windows directory.... there are several drive letters, but none of them seem to relate to my default C:\ disk... and I couldn't find a tutorial for this either!
Any suggestion by experienced users??

Hmm did you enable the NTFS support ? If none of the available drives seems to be your HDD, that's probably because it's NTFS and there is no NTFS support under DOS (by default, that is without some dedicated utilities...)

Thnx for answering Constance... well in FreeDos with NFTS support enabled I get there (the harddisk is now E: instead of C:) E:\WINDOWS\ERDNT\AUTOBACKUP\<backupday>\ but then I cannot edit (and save) the INF file to change the C: references to E: nor can I launch the ERDNT.EXE executable that would perform the registry restore! So what's the use of seeing the files if I cannot use them? :cry: (BTW I was using Volkov Commander to get there).
Is there any workaround that you may know to actually save files and start executables?? :roll:

Hmm you may try removing manually any reference to that OOTMAPI.DLL file from System.ini and see if it goes better ...

I would try this for sure.... but I have to access system.ini and edit it, and that doesn't seem possible at least with this software (if I don't miss something that is)

The NTFS module on the DOS boot disks is READ-ONLY. It's the freeware version of NTFSDOS.

Try NTFS4DOS (Filesystem Tools, NTFS Tools) if you want write access.

first: do u think I could solve the problem editing system.ini as Constance suggested? I cannot see any refernce to that OOTMAPI.DLL in system.ini nor in win.ini (the damn diagnostic was supposed to start BEFORE loading Windows)

I am not sure I know the answer to that. My apologies.

You could also try PuppyLinux, or basically any Linux distro with NTFS support eg. Knoppix.
