Please help test UBCD V5.0b4

BTW, I think it would be more intuitive if both the private torrent and the public torrent are presented for download (with appropriate instructions) after a new torrent is successfully uploaded. This will help people who don't use LT regularly to do The Correct Thing. Having to log out to DL the guest torrent is an extra step that could best be skipped.

So yes we at LT are pretty slack at making things fool proof - it is so hard to look for these things ?
Mind you LT is no worse than the UBCD Fourms - ie. still having this thread labeled "Please help test UBCD V5.0b2" - when now it has become all about "V5.0b3"

Lastly I have given up, as many other torrent uploaders are doing same/similar things to what you have done. I just don't care how you do it any more.

Re: your BTW - I don't think it ever going to happen. Remember I do not "own" the LT site or its hosting server. The owner is "mcangeli" and he is very busy living his own life out side of the LT (work and family etc). You could try log-in to LT and PM or emailing him about this ? But I think your want for it to be "intuitive" as opposed to reading the forums posts, at this stage of the new LT life would just "over complicate" things for the majority of posters (who read the forums) ?

At the first link above, you will see that I say one should not put "iso" in the torrent name. BUT because the UBCD (final releases) can be either an "iso" or "zip" or Win self-extracting "exe" we allow you to use that in the LT torrent names. In fact for UBCD it is good to differentiate between them. There are a few other things similar to this. In general I remove any reference to "iso" in a torrent name, if that is all there is for that distro's torrent. So just continue naming your torrents the way you have been doing them.

I am wondering if clameav/xfprot is on a linux bootable or directly in the menu? also wondering if the 2usb will allow me to have a single directory for ubcd so that I don't have alot of diff ones cluttering up my thumbdrive?

(eg. ubcd / personal / personal / personal... instead of ubcd / images / docs / personal / personal ....)

Cause I think that would be a great idea to make it a bit friendlier to those who want an all in one thumbdrive with ubcd and other stuff on same without partitioning, etc...

clamav and xfprot are available in Parted Magic, and not directly accessible from the UBCD menu.

The UBCD content are now found in its own "ubcd" subdir. All the linux stuff (eg. Parted Magic, DBAN etc.) are found in their own root subdirs however.

I'm gonna try to move as many as i can inside the ubcd when final comes out, but I know sometimes (in my own experience) not all of them will work afterwards. Thankfully it's just the linux crap though, cept partition... the rest prolly can be easily migrated

Hi,

I tried to use the UBCD v5 to run Samsung's ES-Tool on a failed Samsung HD. However when booting the system freezes everytime with the message in this link.

Can anyone help me out?

Specs are:
- Gigabyte GA-965P-DS3P
- Core2 Duo E6600 @ 3.00GHz
- 8 GB Ram @ 333 Mhz
- Nvidia 8800 GTS 320 MB
- WD Raptor 150GB

EDIT: Ultimate Boot CD 4.11 boots fine and runs Samsungs HUTIL 2.04 fine. However 5.0 does not and kicks me out with the same error .

EDIT2: it works! How? Had to remove 6 of my 8 GB of memory, prevent the power management drivers from installing (or it hangs) and the UDMA drivers (or no disks are detected). Still alot of frustration to get this to work .

interesting...what boot modes were you using? I noticed in your picture you were using defensive mode(?). Did the same problem occur in any of the other modes (UMBPCI, EMM386) ???

I'm not sure whether there's a problem with your memory (unlikely) or whether there exists some compatibility issue with one of the drivers/devices not being able to cope with more than 2Gb RAM. Does UBCD 4.11 boot with your 8Gb setup? Might be an issue with the memory manager, Himemx (i'll look into it).

Also, thanks for advising on the Power Management issue. I'll most likely set it to default to "OFF" during boot.

It occured in every mode where I tried to use a memory manager. Only when selecting No UMB it would boot.

Can you change colors of the following entries in default.cfg, so that the user can press TAB to edit the options (now the foreground and background color are the same so that makes it a little bit difficult . You won't see the "Press [Tab] to edit options" because MENU TABMSG doesn't contain any text.
I didn't test the colors yet (broke my virtual machine), so maybe the colors are ugly.

Change -3 to a value so that it doesn't overlap with the help text, when the command line needs 2 rows when you press TAB. Maybe you have to change MENU ROWS -9 too. (can't test it right now).

I have been trying to recover some files from my computer using your Restoration program from an earlier version of UBCD, but it hangs after several hours of recovery. So I though I would try the new UBCD 5.0 beta to see if it would help resolve this matter. But the TestDisk, which is the recovery module included, always blanks my screen with no video at all on it, no matter which graphic mode I choose. I finally got something to come up using FailSafe mode, but when I choose Xorg, it blanked my screen again. Finally got it working using XVesa.

And I was disappointed to find in the info on TestDisk that it says that it only recovers files off of FAT systems. Mine is NTFS.

I am interested in being able to recover files from an NTFS file system and where it puts the files into their proper folders without me having to do it manually. I am trying to recover my XP boot drive information where the Windows folder was deleted. I will need to boot up from a CD and have the file restoration app to run from the CD.

Have you tried NTFSDOS? Simply type "NTFS" at the command prompt to see whether you can access the partition...

I have no problem accessing the partition. I just need to recover my Windows XP files from the Windows directory.
I can see everything using UBCD when I pull up the explorer app.

I'm just needing an undelete program that will not hang up on me when I attempt to recover the Windows directory of files.

If it are only windows files, you can copy them from the windows install CD (recovery option).

photorec can recover files, but it gives the recovered files not the original name.

You can also build a bootable windows live cd (ubcd4win) which contains recovery tools.

How does it come that you have deleted files inside the windows directory?

I was having trouble getting Windows to start, so I pulled out my XP disk. I thought it was the right one, but it was the Home Edition (which I didn't notice until too late). I went through the installation process, and when I selected the L key to install it, it started deleting files out of the Windows directory to set up a new Windows installation. I stopped it when I noticed what it was doing, but it had already deleted many files so that now I can't even boot up into Windows XP Professional anymore.

If you could give me the name(s) of the recovery tools that I would need and where I could download them from, that would be helpful.
And also how I can build my own bootable CD.
