OK I do not feel ashamed to admit that I'm a noob when it comes to out-of-windows computer stuff. This is the first time I'm trying to run a bootable disc (although I've read abt it somewhere bfore) so please help out a bit here.
I asked my BIOS (Phoenix) to boot from the disc and it stated this
--------------------
Press [Enter] to boot from Ultimate Boot CD
boot:_
-----------------------
the _ is shown where the cursor is. Afterwards I press enter, nothing happens and then it reverts to Vista and boot it from hard drive.
How do I solve this problem?
Can someone tell me how to, also please tell me if my BIOS settings is the problem. Thanks a lot

You have 5 seconds time to press Enter, after 5 seconds it will boot from the HDD.
Do you have an USB keyboard? The isolinux version of UBCD411 has some problems with certain USB keyboards (so you keypress isn't registered).
Try UBCD50b12. It has a newer version of isolinux (bootloader).

Can't boot PC from Ultimate Boot CD
Hi
I'm new to this and not very good with computers i have to admit.
I've not been able to boot my PC for a while, it just keeps giving me the following message...
IDE Drives
drive 0, 1, 2, 3 not detected
windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt
<windows root>\system32\hal.dll
please re-install a copy of the above file
This all came about when i used this free registry cleaner and i think i deleted something that i shouldn't have.
I keep trying to use the ultimate boot cd but my pc still won't boot, it came up with the message
cannot read master boot record
ISOlinux disk error 32, AX=4284, drive 9F
I even tried the Beta version, but still it either doesn't boot at all or gives me this error message.
Please can anyone offer any advice.
Thanks very much

Re: Can't boot PC from Ultimate Boot CD
If you dont know what the registry is or does or how it operates do NOT mess with it even with a program that is ment for "cleaning" it.cineramax wrote:Hi

Perform a windows repair, by booting from the windows disc and pressing f8 then R to repair the windows build. You will lose all windows updates, but all your programs will be intact and work properly.
