UBCD Wiki

#1 Post by StopSpazzing » Thu Oct 01, 2009 8:06 pm

Wiki has been moved! http://wiki.ultimatebootcd.com/

Old Post below:
I have started a wiki (have had it for a while never wanted it public until I bought hosting) that I hope people can add to for customizing UBCD to their liking. Currently 1 tutorial available but I need to finish changing the pictures.

Would appreciate it if you had time and some photo snipping expertise to help make step by step tutorials that include pictures for every step. So even the most novice user can modify UBCD to their liking.

If you have any questions or concerns regarding coding or how to edit, feel free to shoot me a private message on here or email me at "admin"AT"stopspazzing.com" . As a heads up, it's using Mediawiki as the base wiki, so any custom editing help should be directed to their website help.

Can we get a *official* ubcd Wiki? I would like to contribute and post some of what I know (if only for my personal reference down the line etc.).

StopSpazzing - I like your Wiki. Its clean and has potential. I tried registering but currently registration seems to be locked. However I think it would be good if the wiki was hosting by UBCD team. I just seen too many times these fan sites go down, lose hosting, lose interest, or get really painfully cluttered. UBCD website has been around for ages and ages (respect). I think it would be awesome if you could put together that wiki for UBCD.

The forums are excellent resources for q/a but I think the wiki would be a great resource to direct people to for specific examples (ie adding Ubuntu to UBCD).

So what do you think Icecube/Victor? Can we have a Wiki (say at wiki.ultimatebootcd.com)?

I think Victor is still busy.
Using Stopspazzings wiki is good for now (pages can be copied easily afterwards).

Icecube poked Stopspazzing to make a wiki  .

Icecube and I talked, and for the time being he asked me to make a wiki...so created one. Hosting is paid for 1 years (will end in sept) and will be signing on for another 2, I can guarentee that. (unfortunately they dont have like 10 year plans.) AND i have backups of everything and will be making backups periodically, just in case. We both think its an amazing idea and as you have said, would be great for organizing Tutorials into, which I have already started doing...mind you havent finished them, but recently have been updating the pictures, mainpage and tweaking the user access to allow only registered users to post, and only users with privy to upload photos (can change at anytime and add anyone easily). I wouldnt mind moving data over at any point, so if there is an actual official wiki.ultimatebootcd.com made, would make every effort needed to help migrate the data...so that nothing is lost.

Currently, I have the wiki as readonly because the version it is using, 1.14 is over a year old , and I am in the process of getting my hosting to run the shell update command to upgrade it to 1.15.1. The reason its so urgent is because there is a MAJOR exploit that allows people to gain administration access, which is extremely BAD (and because its required for the upgrade). Its been about 3 days since its been locked, so its fairly recent...not like im letting it sit like this for a very long time or anything.

Please keep checking this post, as I will post once the wiki has been upgraded. And I thank you for being interested in helping with the wiki.

In that case... party on.

Let me know when we can register to contribute. I would like to add some of the tutorials I have posted here (bootmgr, ubuntu, etc.). The current ubcd tutorial section hasn't had updates for a while.

The wiki has been moved to http://wiki.ultimatebootcd.com/ Thanks to Victor for his help in moving it.

Nothing has been removed or deleted, so if you created an account, it's still accessible.

We need some more wiki editors, so if you have the time and would like to contribute, feel free to make an account and edit away!
