Put the XP OS CD in the drive and reboot. Follow the prompts to install windows...

I tried that and it starts loading the windows setup and then gives me this error.
File \i386\ntkrnlmp.exe could not be loaded.
The error code is 7
Setup cannot continue. Press any key to exit.
Any ideas?
Also this is a Dell Inspiron 9200 laptop.

Sounds like your WinXP install CD is faulty. Do you have another one to try?

Yes I have two xp cd's. I have that came with my dell with sp2, and xp pro that I bought for my pc.
If I put in the xp pro from my desktop it starts the install process and then says:
File \i386\ntkrnlmp.exe could not be loaded.
The error code is 7
Setup cannot continue. Press any key to exit.
If I try the dell xp cd it says:
No boot sector on hard disk -
No bootable devices--strike F1 to retry boot, F2 for setup utility.

Well I'm trying something on the xp pro cd thats for my desk top. I went to the Recovery Console and created a partition by typing: diskpart
Then reboot with the xp cd and now it got my further into the setup and is reformatting. I will keep you posted keeping fingers crossed.
