has anybody figured out how 2 make dos apps work from usb?

I want to use the data lifeguard app from western digital but it always hangs when when it gets to 'Caldera Dr Dos'. I've noticed that a lot of dos programs don't work when booting ubcd from a usb flash drive.
Does anyone know of any workaround or maybe a solution?
