dos or linux, what's the easiest way to run a dumb terminal connection over COM1? the various DOS boots don't seem to install the device.
they don't support the MODE command.
thanks =G

Hello there ^^
I'd say try connecting the port to another machine's com port and transfer a file using something like good old DOS' intersvr / interlnk
Such feature is available in File Maven if I remember well.

the free-dos versions don't seem to support MODE, i don't know how to configure the com port speed etc without that, and i don't see them listed in the config.sys. this stuf is all too old for me, it's decayed away.

i've used the various linux versions which support a varying combination of
dmesg | grep tty
setserial -agv /dev/ttyS0 (ess-zero)
setserial /dev/ttyS0 ^skip_test baud_base 9600

and using
miterm -D/dev/ttyS0
or
microterm

etc. but either i have a box with a dead com port or i've lost the art of twiddling because i KNOW this cable works - tried it between 2 xp machines.
