Ultimate Boot CD

Hi guys....

Just want to say thanks for the opportuntity to use a great combination of programs. I have downloaded this version, but, have paid for a physical version to be sent, in due course....
Now...I have downloaded and sucessfully burnt all the correct files to a CD, using BurnCDCC...but haven't tried booting with it yet....lol
I would just like to know, having read various comments...
How do I begin the process of completely wiping a drive, and reformatting it etc. ( it is not my C Drive at this stage)...e.g. which of the utilities should I use....and, what are the things to watch for, or, potential problems.
I am using Win XP Home SP2, and I am an above average home user, but not a tech...lmao

OK...have booted up the CD...it works fine!!
Ran MemTest86, with no errors.
But....which of the hard drive wiping programs, acyually lets you pick an individual drive to wipe?
Darik's Boot & Nuke wants to wipe ALL the drives at once....I only want to wipe the drives I nominate. Luckily I realised quickly and restarted the PC before it began.

There are a few other HDD wiping proggies that you can try on the UBCD:

- AutoClave
- Active@ KillDisk Free Edition
- PC INSPECTOR e-maxx

AutoClave is a little dated and development has stopped, so it might not work if you have newer hardware.

I do realise there are others on the disk, but which of them will let me choose individual drives to 'wipe'. Do you kow?

E.g. at the moment I want to wipe just my D:\ drive

And do they delete the partitiion after they have wiped it?

Can't you just format it ?
Do you really need it to be wiped-out ?
Well, you may try a format /u , that should do it, unless you want some ultra secure wiping in several passes ...

Is this true?

This drive has been reformatted at least 3 times already, so I would like to get "everything" off it...lol

I just want to know if I can do them each partition at a time, when I want to, and that it doesn't delete the partition in the process. Or, if it does....do I have to create a new partition again, using Disc Management.

Hmm... no :p
Unless they are on other partitions or in the Master Boot Record (which you may clear with the "FDisk /MBR" command )
But of course, if the system you boot from is infected / vulnerable, you very well may get viruses back just after you reboot.

All of them does. DBAN is the odd one out.

But I think only Active@ KillDisk Free Edition allows you to wipe a single partition. The others wipe the entire hard disk.

Ok, I guess we just had a little misunderstanding while some people were talking about physical drives and others about logical drives, without anyone mentionning that point

OK....firstly, thank you to Victor, that's what I wanted to know.

And to Constance, can you explain to me in easy-to-understand lingo, what the difference between "physical" & "Logical" drives is, please?

Well, logical would be a partition, like that one you call D: ... physical is the hard disk drive "machinery" itself.
