Newbie Help (formatting HDD)

Hi All,
Can you help, please??
What I would like to do is remove XP from an old machine and install ME. This machine doesn't have a floppy on it and I haven't got a clue (
) what to do. Can UBCD help? I've tried format command in DOS but no luck.
