Hello Victor.

Can you publish the md5 checksum of the UBCD V4.0.1 iso file on your downloads page? This is what I have calculated:

Sure. Just drop 'em in your ed2k client, post the links on your downloads page and I will help spreading them.

The UBCD V4.0.1 iso file is spreading well. Currently I see 7 completed sources.

Btw: Some ed2k clients are using on-the-fly compression. Can somebody tell me how much is gained by compression of the UBCD V4.0.1 iso file?

EDIT: I've just tested the on-the-fly compression by myself and downloaded the UBCD V4.0.1 iso file with aMule. The compression is pretty much as effective as sharing the zip file:

There is no tracker.
Is it really necessary ? :hmm:
Can you try with µTorrent, to check if it's not some kind of incompatibility ?

Could be it one of those new and fancy trackerless torrents.

Sorry, I don't run ed2k client on my PC during to stability issues. I use to run eMule, but found that running that and uTorrent at the same time makes my network somewhat slow and unstable. So it's only uTorrent on my machine these days.

If any of you happen to be sharing the EXE or ZIP, I will be happy to publish the hashes.

BTW, there is a reason why I am not actively promoting the ready-made version of V4.0.1. That's because it will be easier for me to publish deltas against the original V4.0 image, instead of that and all subsequent minor releases, which is a pain.

Why don't I just update every mirror to V4.0.1 (or whatever latest minor release)? Well, it takes a lot of coordination and bandwidth to update the mirrors, which is why I try to avoid doing it. Since minor releases could potentially be very frequent, it is easier for me to publish new deltas instead of updating the mirrors for each minor release.

Well, eMule is an ed2k client too. Just like aMule, xMule, eDonkey2000, Lphant, etc. They're all ed2k clients for the ed2k network.

I understand you very well and I am not asking you to update any mirrors. The only thing I am asking you (apart from continuing your superb work making UBCD and apart from providing the xdeltas

) is to publish the md5 of the UBCD iso file alongside the xdelta files of every new release. Doing that, every user can be sure that she has downloaded, by whatever means, the correct (unaltered) version.

Don't bother to update the mirrors and let the community do the work to spread the files. See, I am sharing ubcd401.iso on the ed2k net for less than a week now and just me, I already uploaded 3 GiB of it. Besides, I estimate 42 complete sources flying around there on the ed2k net.

EDIT: There is no need to publish the md5 of the resulting iso file as it is already included in the xdelta file:

Yeah, I understand that. What I meant was I used to seed UBCD myself by running eMule, but found that it makes my system rather unstable, so I am no longer running it. Hence I need to rely on others to seed the files.
