How do I use this CD? Windows won't start

#1 Post by clownfish » Mon Dec 11, 2006 3:06 am

Hi There, I totally new to this forum & I hope you can help me....My Pc has been working fine then my wife turned it on this morning to be greeted with a black screen saying:

Windows could not start because the following file is missing or currupt:

\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM

no matter what I press on the keyboard the pc re-boots & I get the error message again!! I have been told that this is a reasonably common problem & the UBCD should fix it.....what do I do guys????

I have just received my UBCD, I popped it into the cd drive & it loaded up. What on earth do I do now? I was greeted with a menu but had no idea what to choose to sort the problem. I am a bit scared because I don't want to lose any of my data on the hd. I have a lot of Family, our wedding, honeymoon & baby daughter pics that I stupidly haven't yet backed up!!

Please please help me.
Regards
adam :(

Hmm I think for this sort of problem I'd first try to repair the system using the Windows installation CD. Do you have it ?

Hi guys I'm also having the same problem and I have tried the recovery console but I cant copy or make any directories as outlined on the MS web site and other web pages.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I am in the same boat. Is there a tutorial on how to use the UBCD to boot WinXP? If not, could some one explain? I would really appreciate it.

That's just not possible because there is almost an infinity of reasons why your Windows may refuse to start. UBCD contains lots of tools, but no magic.

If memory serves me right, both MBRtool and MBRWork will fix up your MBR for you.
