Ultimate CD purchase

#1 Post by katy98 » Tue Jul 10, 2007 5:05 pm

Is there an alternative method to purchase the Ultimate CD cd besides using PayPal? I have a legitimate credit card that is reliable. I've had PayPal charges in the past that I did NOT authorize and do not trust that service!

Thanks for any help.......katy

Can't you just download and burn it ?
Not even at a cybercafé ?
You don't *have to* pay to get a copy you know ...

I have the exact same problem, and as a result, my PayPal account is "locked" and they say I have to pay them for those charges. I can't even use much of eBay now, since they bought PayPal. I refuse this extortion, will not pay blood money to thieves. (Nor FOR thieves)
As a disabled Vet, I don't even own a credit card, never have. (I think I must be the only 50+ year old American still alive to have NEVER had a credit card!) If I don't have the money, I do without. (A lot)
I do, however, have and sometimes use a debit card. (Tied to my checking account) If the money isn't in there, it won't work. Same as if my wallet were empty, I can't buy it. This ought to be a workable solution, some way.
As for downloading it, NO. I can't get anywhere near a cafe, even if we had one. (I live in a VERY small, rural, town of maybe 300 people) Being disabled, I don't get around much.
I do NOT have high speed anything. I'm lucky I have dial-up. (Around here, even THAT is a tricky thing, not real reliable)
I re-furb old, 'found', and donated computers for my fellow disabled Vets, that they may be a bit less alone and isolated. (You try being in a wheelchair for awhile, and watch as the world moves around you, NOT with you) In a big city, sure, things are better, But a LOT of the world is NOT in a big city!
I can make the computers we get work, in many cases, but the cost of 'legal' software is absolutly a deal breaker. But then I bought a magazine with a LINUX DVD in it, and discovered the answer. But, many times, systems we get have had some ham-fisted attempt at wipping made on them, and this often leaves them in a totaly unusable or even fixable state. Sure, I could replace the HD, but cost is everything. Why not re-use the existing one, WITH the right drivers, if at all possible? Then remove all personal data, (format), re-install legal software, and away we go. This is what we do, 99% of the time. (BTW, "WE" means me, and a couple of part-time volunteers)
So, does anyone have a solution? Help me help my fellow Vets. Please!
